Home Visits

Doctor's bag

Practice policy is that home visits are reserved for exceptional circumstances only.

Effective patient care in general practice is best delivered in the majority of instances at our surgery premises. Here the clinicians have access to support staff, investigation facilities and the record systems are close to hand.

Home visits are discretionary and not an absolute requirement of GP terms and services. Lack of transportation is not in itself an indication for a home visit.

If you wish to request a home visit, please telephone before 11:00 a.m. wherever possible. You will be asked to give a brief outline of the problem with the receptionist along with a contact number. All requests for a home visit are triaged by a clinician and you will be contacted by telephone. If it is more appropriate that the problem can be best dealt with at the surgery you will be asked to attend. Some conditions can be dealt with safely over the telephone.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
